Emails and Hosting Supplier

Emails and hosting companies offer a number of different services for handling the e-mail sent to your domain. These include e-mail forwarding, POP e-mail, and autoresponders. But what does it all mean?

The most basic service included in emails and hosting, included with virtually all emails and hosting accounts, is known as default e-mail forwarding. This allows you to specify an existing e-mail address where all messages sent to your domain name will be deposited if you do not specify otherwise.

This emails and hosting service can be set up to forward to any active e-mail account, whether it be a POP account setup with your emails and hosting provider, a free account such as you@hotmail or you@yahoo.com, or even a POP account setup with your emails and hosting provider. The advantage here is that you can receive e-mail from many different aliases associated with your domain name in one central mailbox, without having to login to a separate emails and hosting accounts with a different username/password combination each time.

For example, say you had an existing emails and hosting account, myname@att.net, which you used on a daily basis. Then you signed up for a emails and hosting account and setup the domain name mynewsite.com. With myname@att.net set as the address for your default e-mail forwarding you could place e-mail aliases such as sales@mynewsite.com.

Emails and Hosting Services

Do you have an emails and hosting account through your ISP, work, or school? If so, it is likely that you already have a emails and hosting POP e-mail account. When you sign up for emails and hosting services you will usually be given the option of setting up one or more POP accounts for use in association with your domain name.

POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) emails and hosting accounts are specific aliases for your domain name that hold mail on your emails and hosting web server. You will then have the ability to login to the server using a username and password specific to that POP mailbox and retrieve your mail securely from anywhere in the world.

For example you might setup john@yourdomain.com with the username johnny and password lightning. If this was done, all e-mail sent to john@yourdomain.com would sit in a secure area on the emails and hosting server until someone logged in with the correct username and password, using an emails and hosting mail program such as Netscape Messenger or Microsoft Outlook, and downloaded the mail.
